Maggie Cai, of the Stony Brook Independent, shares a photo essay of Form and Facture: New Painting and Sculpture from New York.

The group exhibition, featuring four painters and two sculptors from New York, is currently on view and will run

until December 13.

The show is curated by Karen Levitov and features work by Rachel Beach, Paul Behnke, Matthew Neil Gehring, Osamu Kobayashi, Rebecca Murtaugh, and Fran O'Neill.

A panel talk with the artist will be held on November 17 at 1 pm.

The exhibition, titled How to carry a cloud, includes a series of new paintings that explore hidden sources of water in the desert landscape. Rivas uses clouds and creosote bushes as metaphors for the interconnected sources of life-giving moisture in arid regions. Both reflect water stored in the land and the air, deceptively close and yet inaccessible. Cloud forms appear across several works, oscillating between pattern and landscape.
