An Occasional Dream June 24 - July 31, 2016 Life on Mars, Brooklyn, NY Life on Mars Gallery is pleased to present  An Occasional Dream , our final exhibition celebrating our creative community. This show will feature Life on Mars artists: Todd Bienvenu, Farrell Brickhouse, Mandy Lyn Ford, Brenda Goodman, Arnold Mesches, Fran O’Neill and Karen Schwartz. We have also invited regulars from our artistic community, including Len Bellinger, Paul Behnke, Paul D’Agostino, Daniel John Gadd, Catherine Haggerty, Elisa Jensen, Zachary Keeting, Thomas Micchelli and Dave Pollack. I will also be showing one of my pieces to raise a painterly toast to all that we have accomplished within the Bushwick community and at the gallery....

Farrell Brickhouse It's bittersweet to be included in Life on Mars' final exhibition. Looking forward to a blow out of an opening with friends and peers that I respect and that have done so much to promote the medium we love in the neighborhood we love! Brenda Goodman and John Yau taking in Goodman's show of new work at Life on Mars Gallery. photo courtesy of Life on Mars From the Press Release: Life On Mars Gallery  is proud to present a special artist talk with painter  Brenda   Goodman  and the esteemed poet, author and critic  John   Yau  at Life on Mars Gallery on Sunday, April 19th, the final day of her one-person exhibition here.  Goodman's work is most recently also featured in the current Academy of Arts and Letters Invitational, for which she was one of five recipients of an Exceptional Accomplishment Award. She has received a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, and two New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowships. She has had 34 one-artist exhibitions at numerous galleries throughout the country, and her work has been exhibited in more than 170 group shows, most notably in New York City at The Whitney Biennale, The New Museum, Edward Thorp Gallery, Pamela A...

Almost a Bride , 2015 (detail) Brenda Goodman continues to plumb the depths of her own, as well as our collective unconscious in this staggering exhibition of major, new paintings.  Goodman, once again presents a very personal narrative brought to life through intimate and unexampled forms that are both guarded, and set afloat by a limited palette of muted and gemlike colors. Brenda Goodman: New Work is on view through April 19 when Life on Mars will present an Artist's Talk between Goodman and the poet and critic John Yau. Amy Sillman ,  Williamsburg Portraits , 1991 -92, ink, gouache, pencil on paper 11 x 8 in. each From the Press Release: During a recent studio visit with  Katherine Bradford , we were looking at her work for our upcoming exhibition and discussing our frustration about how painting was not represented in the recent survey show at the Brooklyn Museum, entitled, “Crossing Brooklyn: Art from Bushwick, Bed-Stuy and Beyond”.  We looked at each other and said (I don’t remember who said it first), “Brooklyn is the painting capital of the world”. Yep, there it is, it’s out there. During one of our conversations,  Irving Sandler   told me that   at this moment there are more painters and more painters with serious studio practices in Brooklyn than in any place in the world, and many of the most important contemporary galleries and museum shows feature works by Brooklyn painters.
