The Brooklyn Museum is currently showing Eva Hesse Spectres 1960 and some of the images included in this post will be on view. The exhibit offers an often overlooked aspect of the great sculptor's artistic output and shows her to be an interesting, formidable and influential painter.

Eva Hesse is one of the most organic artists I have ever come across. It's a tragedy that her life ended so suddenly, but even in her short term she managed to be completely authentic to herself as well as her craft. That is to be commended.

Thanks for posting Paul, I remember one of the best days of my life I went to the Robert Miller Gallery when I lived in NYC and her paintings were hanging there, it was so wonderful to see them up close, I hope to see this show.

@Lucy: I look forward to seeing the show next week. I think she's very underrated as a painter. It's not often you see an exhibition of them. I would also like to see some of the abstract ones in person.

@Dwayne: I really like the 3-d work too. She also did some relief paintings that serve as a smoother transition to her sculpture. I've also got a very nice book of her drawings...
