A resident of New York's Bowery for just over thirty years, the Detroit native now lives and works in Pine Hill, NY. The work featured in Brenda Goodman is a tour de force weaving together figurative elements and abstraction into a seamless cloth. The result is equal parts personal narrative, metaphor and formal, hard won, painterly elements. Stunning and pictorially inventive, this new body of work joins Goodman's previous efforts in setting her apart from her contemporaries as a painter willing to do the hard, long work of mining the private and public spaces she inhabits.
